The family of former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bamanga Tukur, has announced that he will be buried in Yola, Adamawa State, on Sunday, September 13, 2026.
Tukur died in Abuja on Saturday, September 12, according to a statement issued by his son, Awwal Tukur, who is the Secretary to the Adamawa State Government.
The family said funeral prayers for the late elder statesman will be held at the Lamido’s Palace in Yola at 10:00 a.m., after which he will be laid to rest.
Tukur died three days before his 91st birthday, which would have been on September 15.
The former governor of the old Gongola State held several prominent positions during his public career. He served as General Manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority and later became Governor of Gongola State.
He also served as Minister of Industries during the military administration of former Head of State, General Sani Abacha.
Tukur became National Chairman of the PDP in March 2012 and remained in the position until his resignation in January 2014.
Beyond politics and public administration, he was also involved in business and continental economic affairs. He served as president of the Africa Business Roundtable.
His death has drawn condolences from political leaders and institutions, with President Bola Tinubu mourning the former governor and describing his passing as a loss to Nigeria.
Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri also declared three days of mourning in honour of the former governor and PDP national chairman.
Tukur is survived by two wives and 18 children, including Awwal Tukur.
His remains are expected in Yola ahead of Sunday’s funeral rites.
