INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says Nigeria’s voter register now contains 103,428,715 registered voters ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Lagos, Kano and Kaduna recording the highest numbers.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed the figures on Tuesday, during a stakeholders’ meeting and press conference in Abuja.

Lagos leads the country with 7,488,633 registered voters, followed by Kano with 6,570,276 and Kaduna with 4,662,640.

Katsina ranks fourth with 3,876,051 registered voters, while Rivers, Oyo, Delta, Benue, Ogun and Bauchi complete the top 10.

Amupitan said the latest register followed the completion of the commission’s three-phase Continuous Voter Registration exercise, biometric verification and cleaning of the register.

The three phases of the registration exercise recorded 10,772,421 new registrations before the final biometric verification and clean-up.

INEC also said newly issued Permanent Voter Cards will be available for nationwide collection from October 9, 2026.

The commission will display the voter register for public scrutiny from October 9 to October 15, allowing voters to check their details and raise claims or objections where necessary.

The register contains 53,528,218 male voters, representing 51.75 per cent, and 49,900,497 female voters, representing 48.25 per cent.

Voters aged between 35 and 49 form the largest age group, with 43,265,946 registered voters, while those aged 18 to 34 account for 29,777,576.

The 2027 general elections are scheduled to take place as Nigeria prepares for another nationwide electoral cycle.

INEC has urged eligible Nigerians to participate in the electoral process and ensure their voter information is accurate.
